A federal judge in San Francisco has awarded approximately $147 million in legal fees to attorneys who sued Google over privacy violations. This decision follows a $425 million jury verdict from September 2025, which found that Google secretly collected app activity data from about 98 million users who had explicitly opted out of tracking. The fee award represents about one-third of the total common fund of roughly $440.3 million, a multiplier of 2.6 times the baseline lodestar calculation exceeding $56 million. Lead counsel David Boies billed at $2,730 per hour across a legal team that logged more than 49,670 hours of work. Each of the 98 million affected users is expected to receive less than $5 from the settlement.
