Jess Asato sues xAI over Grok deepfakes and consent violations

Labour MP Jess Asato filed a claim against xAI on June 3, 2026, over sexualized deepfake images depicting her, which she says were produced using the Grok chatbot. She alleges breaches of the Data Protection Act 2018 and misuse of private information. She is seeking damages and court orders requiring the removal of the content and the introduction of safeguards. Researchers estimate that Grok created around three million images of women and children in eleven days between late December 2025 and early January 2026. The case, supported by more than 100 organizations, more than 12,000 messages from women in over 50 countries and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, remained active in October 2026, while xAI had not filed a defence at key stages of the proceedings as of July 2026.
