Israeli strikes kill at least eight in Gaza after Hamas agrees to disarmament deal

At least eight people, including two children aged 10 and 6, were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza on July 8, according to Palestinian health officials. The strikes came after Hamas agreed to terms on a disarmament framework, in a context where the US-brokered ceasefire agreement of January 2025 has failed to durably halt hostilities. A subsequent wave of strikes on August 1 killed two more Palestinians and destroyed medicine storage facilities near a hospital in Gaza City. Negotiations on disarmament remain blocked as Israel has not fully endorsed the proposed framework, and the ceasefire exists essentially only on paper.
