Ireland bans imports from Israeli settlements, Palestinian ministry applauds

Irish President Catherine Connolly has signed the Israeli Settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory Bill 2026 into law, banning imports from Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The legislation, passed by Ireland’s parliament earlier this month, aims to exert economic pressure on Israel regarding its settlement activities. The Palestinian Foreign Ministry responded positively and urged other countries to enact similar measures. Prediction markets have shown an increase in the perceived likelihood of countries such as the US, Italy, and the Netherlands recognizing Palestine before 2027.
