Iraqi authorities seize 15 drone launch platforms after strikes on Saudi pipeline

Iraq seized 15 drone launch platforms and dismissed a provincial commander after drones launched from its territory struck Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline in early September 2026. The 1,200-kilometer pipeline, handling roughly 4-5% of global oil supply, was temporarily shut down by Riyadh. Baghdad also closed three border crossings with Iran and launched an investigation, with Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi stating that Iraq would not permit its territory to be used as a staging ground for attacks against neighboring countries. Oil prices rose sharply following the attacks. Despite the damage, Saudi Arabia showed restraint and did not launch immediate military retaliation.
