Iraq is planning a new pipeline through Syria to reduce its reliance on the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic chokepoint for its oil exports. The project aims to revive the Iraq-Syria pipeline to Baniyas, which has been out of service since 2003. This pipeline would transport oil from Kirkuk or Haditha to Syria’s Mediterranean coast, providing Iraq with greater strategic export flexibility. Alternative routes through Turkey and Jordan are also being considered. This initiative could influence WTI crude oil prices by potentially increasing global oil supply.
