Instagram cracks down on growing ‘pervert glasses’ problem with Meta Ray-Bans

Instagram is tightening its policy against videos recorded with Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses, following the proliferation on social media of clips showing men secretly filming women in public spaces. Instagram head Adam Mosseri stated that content exploiting and harassing people will be removed, and Meta has already deleted several creator accounts violating these rules. Shipments of display-less smart glasses surged 167% year-over-year in Q1 2026 to approximately 2.25 million units, with Meta capturing 69.2% of this market. This controversy highlights Meta’s major challenge: convincing consumers that AI-powered glasses can become an everyday device without sacrificing privacy. Apple plans to unveil its own smart glasses at WWDC, making privacy protection a central selling point.
