The Rhysida ransomware group demanded 30 bitcoin, worth approximately $2.4 million at current prices, from the State of Berlin in exchange for 5.7 terabytes of stolen data. Florian Hauer, Berlin’s chief digital officer, ruled out any payment, stating that the safety of staff and residents was the top priority. The deadline expired on September 4 without any funds being paid, and Rhysida published the full stolen dataset on the dark web. Two Berlin Senate departments had been disconnected from the state network since August 14, suspending housing benefit payments and family support for several days. Residents were warned that their personal data could be among the compromised information.
