xAI’s terminal-based coding agent Grok Build reached version 1.0.0 on August 7, 2026, after going from initial beta to final release in roughly 10 weeks with approximately 100 updates shipped during that period. The tool was open-sourced under the Apache 2.0 license on July 15, 2026, midway through the beta phase, as part of a transparency strategy following reported data breaches. Version 1.0 now runs on the Grok 4.5 model and includes dashboard summaries, enhanced navigation, and improved error recovery. Grok Build competes directly with Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex CLI in the AI coding agent market.
