Grayscale credits Zcash’s 20% developer funding with a decade of innovation

Grayscale argues that the allocation of 20% of Zcash block rewards to developers has supported nearly a decade of innovation in privacy technologies. Eight percent of those rewards fund community grants, while 12% goes into a lockbox for the development fund. This mechanism, inherited from the Founders’ Reward introduced when Zcash launched in October 2016, was replaced by the current model during the Canopy upgrade in November 2020. Ahead of the NU7 upgrade, scheduled for November 5, 2026 to reduce the block interval from 75 to 25 seconds, Grayscale is highlighting the funding model, while ZEC lost approximately 25% in October and Grayscale’s Zcash Trust recorded $41.09 million in net inflows.
