Google has opened its SynthID detector to everyone through a new website, allowing anyone to check whether an image, video, or audio contains an invisible AI-generated watermark. The detector now recognizes watermarks from Google and its partners, including OpenAI, ElevenLabs, Kakao, and Nvidia, covering over 100 billion images and videos along with 60,000 years of audio content from Gemini alone. The technology, developed by Google DeepMind in 2023, has been expanded to iOS 27 with Apple’s planned integration, while SynthID Bio is set to launch on September 30, 2026 for protein sequence watermarking. A limitation remains: the detector only works on content that carries a SynthID tag, meaning a clean result indicates no signal was found, not that the content is human-made.
