Google released Nano Banana 2.1 on October 6, the latest version of its AI image generation and editing model, available in the Gemini app, Google Search’s AI Mode, Google Ads, and developer tools. The model scored 1,050 ELO points in text-to-image tests, outperforming Nano Banana 2 (990) and Nano Banana Pro (935). Key upgrades include improved visual design, sharper mask-based editing, and better subject consistency after multiple edits. Through the developer API, a standard 1K image costs $0.0336, roughly half of Nano Banana 2’s $0.067, while a 4K image runs $0.0756 versus $0.151. The model handles up to 14 reference images simultaneously and outputs images up to 4K resolution.
