Google Gemini now lets you edit Docs, PDFs, and more inside the chat

Google announced on October 29, 2026, that Gemini users can now generate, preview, and edit seven file formats directly within a conversation: PDFs, Google Docs, Google Sheets, presentations, Markdown, TXT files, and code. The feature is rolling out across supported languages and regions, but PDF editing works on both web and mobile, while every other format remains web-only for now. Users can make manual changes in full-screen mode, ask Gemini to modify a highlighted passage, or submit follow-up requests in the same conversation. The update completes a 2026 progression that began with Gemini’s integration into Google Workspace and continued with its ability to generate and download files; it reduces the need to download documents and open them in separate applications.
