Goldman Sachs has identified the Russell 1000 companies most likely to benefit from AI-driven productivity gains by analyzing the share of their wage bill exposed to AI automation relative to their labor costs as a percentage of sales. Among the beneficiaries were CoStar Group, Dollar Tree and eBay, while sectors showing the highest labor intensity and AI sensitivity were software, professional services, finance and biotech. Productivity gains remain modest at this stage, with AI still primarily in its infrastructure phase rather than application phase. According to Goldman Sachs economists, AI could increase productivity growth by 1.5 percentage points over the coming decade, with estimates ranging from 0.53% (MIT) to 3.4% (McKinsey) depending on the source.
