GlobalFoundries unveils 7nm-class FDX Fusion chip platform with 2028 Dresden manufacturing target

GlobalFoundries announced its new 7nm-class FDX Fusion chip platform targeting physical AI at the edge. Manufacturing is planned at its Dresden, Germany facility starting in 2028, backed by an investment of approximately 1.1 billion euros aimed at increasing capacity to over 1 million 300mm wafers per year. The FDX platform, in volume production since 2019 with over 3 billion chips shipped, supports operating temperatures up to 150 degrees Celsius. The company estimates the physical AI market to exceed 18 billion dollars by 2030, a segment driven by automotive, industrial robotics, and IoT applications.
