Semiconductor firms GlobalFoundries and Marvell are expanding their partnership on silicon photonics for AI data centers. Their goal is to develop next-generation optical interconnects capable of reaching 400G per lane with power consumption below 5 picojoules per bit. Marvell has made two major acquisitions in this domain, including Celestial AI for approximately $3.25 billion in December 2025. The chipmaker forecasts revenues of around $12 billion for fiscal year 2027 and $18 billion for fiscal year 2028, driven by over 70% year-over-year growth in data center interconnects. GlobalFoundries has also signed a letter of intent for a $300 million grant from the US Department of Commerce to support advanced semiconductor research.
