French authorities have recorded 90 crypto-related crimes over seven months, including kidnappings, extortion, threats and theft. This marks a sharp increase from 45 incidents throughout 2025. The attack rate rose from 1.9 per month in 2025 to about 4.6 per month in early 2026, while reported global thefts topped $30 million in the first half of 2026. Data breaches exposing victims’ personal information are identified as a key driver of this surge. About 200 arrests have been made, with formal charges against 88 individuals including ten minors across 12 different cases.
