Francesco Farioli, 37, Porto’s head coach, is set to manage his first-ever Champions League match against Manchester City at the Estádio do Dragão in September. The Italian manager credits Roberto De Zerbi as his primary coaching influence, particularly regarding narrow player positioning and the balance between attacking ambition and defensive structure. Porto have won all five of their Liga NOS matches in the 2026-27 season, conceding just one goal in the process. Since arriving in July 2025, Farioli has already won the Primeira Liga title in May 2026 and the Portuguese Super Cup in August 2026, collecting two trophies in roughly 12 months. Manchester City arrive in Porto having spent approximately €527 million in their most recent transfer window alone, with total recent spending exceeding €3 billion, though Farioli is counting on home advantage and collective mentality despite several player absences.
