France: Polymarket sues the ANJ

Polymarket filed a legal challenge in French courts on August 21 to contest the blocking of its website, ordered by the national gambling authority (ANJ) on July 16. The predictive markets platform, which positions itself as an information service rather than a gambling operator, recorded over 578,000 visits from France in June despite the ban in place since November 2024. This legal action follows a broader European trend, with countries such as Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland having also restricted or blocked access to predictive markets. Polymarket states its intention to maintain constructive dialogue with the French regulator while firmly contesting the unilateral blocking decision.
