On the night of August 3-4, three burglars attempted to steal cryptocurrency from a female merchant in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, Yvelines, but police intervened in time based on precise intelligence, preventing any theft. A man in his twenties was arrested on the scene while his two accomplices fled and remain actively sought. France reportedly accounts for approximately 70% of global cases of sequestration and extortion attempts related to cryptoassets, with 77 cases recorded since the beginning of the year against 45 for the entire year of 2025. Around 200 arrests and 88 indictments have already been made as part of 12 separate judicial investigations related to this type of aggression.
