Jay Clayton, the former Securities and Exchange Commission chairman whose agency brought the landmark lawsuit against XRP-linked company Ripple, is expected to be named the White House’s new artificial intelligence czar. He will simultaneously keep his position as director of national intelligence, confirmed by the Senate on July 28. During his confirmation hearing, Clayton called artificial intelligence a “game changer.” His tenure at the SEC was marked by the lawsuit against Ripple, which he launched on his way out and which the SEC ultimately lost. Since leaving the regulator, Clayton has become involved with several crypto companies and had predicted that U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF approval was “inevitable.”
