Patrick Steven Yaroch, a former FBI supervisory special agent, has been charged with stealing nearly $1 million in cryptocurrency from digital wallets linked to FBI counterintelligence investigations. He transferred funds to his own accounts approximately 10 times after memorizing the wallet recovery phrases. Investigators found ChatGPT conversations on his phone where he asked for advice on investing $1 million and becoming a resident of a European Union country. A Kraken account containing approximately $188,570, including nearly $18,000 in USDC, as well as a Trezor hardware wallet were seized during searches. Yaroch was arrested on July 31, 2026.
