Fei-Fei Li advises leaders to focus on science in AI debate

Fei-Fei Li, Stanford professor and leading figure in artificial intelligence, urged policymakers to abandon science fiction scenarios and adopt an evidence-based approach at the AI Action Summit in Paris. She presented a policy framework built on three pillars: regulation grounded in scientific evidence, pragmatic rules that foster innovation, and support for the entire AI ecosystem. Known as the « Godmother of AI », Li created the ImageNet database, which became the foundation for modern computer vision, and she co-founded World Labs, a company focused on spatial intelligence that launched with 230 million dollars in funding. Li warns against regulations centered on fictional concerns like machine sentience, while neglecting urgent issues such as bias in hiring algorithms or misinformation generated by language models.
