80% of economists surveyed by CNBC want Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh to explain his economic thinking in his first Jackson Hole keynote on Friday. The survey of 31 economists, strategists, and investors shows an even split at 48% to 48% on whether Warsh should address the rate outlook at all. A majority of 65% supports the idea that the Fed should say less and lean harder on market signals about rates. Meanwhile, 77% of respondents expect Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s decision to increase purchases of long-dated bonds to fail in lowering Treasury yields, with the 10-year yield standing at 4.66%. Looking ahead, 53% of respondents forecast rate hikes over the next year, compared to 30% expecting cuts.
