The European Parliament’s economic affairs committee approved a report urging an assessment of whether the MiCA regulatory framework should be expanded to cover decentralized finance (DeFi), staking, lending and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The document supports euro-denominated stablecoins, viewing them as complementary to tokenized commercial bank deposits and wholesale central bank digital currencies. It also calls on member states to apply MiCA uniformly to preserve a level playing field for crypto firms. The European Commission launched a public consultation in May on expanding the framework, with MiCA’s transitional period ending on July 1.
