Ethereum’s next major upgrade just slipped to late 2026, forcing a two-week scramble to save its 2027 roadmap

Ethereum’s Glamsterdam upgrade has slipped from the first half of 2026 to the fourth quarter of 2026, putting the 2027 Hegotá roadmap at risk. Developers have launched the Platåberget public testnet to run several months of testing before deploying to Sepolia and Hoodi testnets. About 66 proposals are competing for inclusion in Hegotá, with developers having roughly two weeks until August 27 to narrow the field. FOCIL (EIP-7805) is the only confirmed consensus-layer proposal so far, while Frame Transactions (EIP-8141) and Quick Slots (EIP-8198) are among the leading candidates under consideration.
