Ethereum’s multi-party block construction goes live on mainnet

Ethereum’s multi-party block construction (MPBC) went live on mainnet on September 16, allowing multiple builders to collaborate on a single block without changes to the underlying protocol. In the first 24 hours, roughly 3% of Ethereum blocks were constructed using this approach, with more than 20,000 transactions included faster since testing began in late August. Some multi-party blocks included up to 810 additional transactions compared to a single builder’s output, with gas usage jumping nearly 14-fold in certain cases. The initiative, coordinated by the Blockspace Forum, brought together 32 teams accounting for over 95% of out-of-protocol block contributions on Ethereum. This approach mitigates centralization risks by preventing any single entity from having full control over transaction ordering or block inclusion.
