Ethereum proposes native transaction assertions to tackle blind signing

Share

Ethereum has published a technical proposal, EIP-7906, aimed at strengthening transaction security through native assertions. The proposal introduces three new opcodes (TXTRACE, TXDIFF, EVENTDATACOPY) that enable on-chain code to verify the actual state changes of a transaction and automatically reverse it if results violate user-defined rules. It builds on the frame transaction format described in EIP-8141, adding a POST_TX frame capable of executing read-only checks and revoking the transaction if conditions are not met. The target is to deploy this upgrade as part of the Hegotá hard fork, anticipated for 2027. The initiative falls under the Ethereum Foundation’s Trillion Dollar Security program, which seeks to address blind signing risks that occur when users approve transactions with unreadable or unclear details.
