Epoch AI, a nonprofit tracking AI progress, reported that approximately 27.6 million H100-equivalent chips had been sold as of June 2026. Depending on efficiency assumptions, this hardware stock could support between 24 million and 24 billion AI workers. Projections indicate that the H100-equivalent stock should reach approximately 46 million units by end of 2026 and nearly 140 million by end of 2028, potentially enabling around 1.2 billion AI agents. Research firm IDC projects 1 billion active AI agents by 2029.
