A Deloitte survey conducted by Ipsos among 25,000 UK workers reveals that British employees collectively spend nearly £1 billion annually of their own money on generative AI tools for work. The study shows that 17% of workers personally fund these tools, 66% have experimented with them, and 24% use them daily. Approximately 31% of users employ these tools without their employer’s knowledge, raising major data security and compliance concerns. Workers using these tools report saving an average of 70 minutes per week on tasks such as information searches, email drafting, and document summarization. For employers, this unregulated usage creates blind spots in data governance, while for AI providers, the enterprise licensing market represents a substantial and largely untapped opportunity.
