David Lisnard Promises 120 Billion for Net Salaries: Is It Credible?

Share

David Lisnard, mayor of Cannes and a candidate in the 2027 French presidential election, plans 200 billion euros in annual public savings, including 120 billion for an increase in net salaries averaging 400 euros per month. He would allocate 40 billion to debt reduction and 40 billion to cuts in production taxes, following an initial target of 80 billion in savings during the first year. Against a French public deficit of 152 billion euros in 2025, his plan would nevertheless leave a residual funding requirement of more than 110 billion before macroeconomic effects. The program, which lacks detailed costings for most measures, also includes abolishing the French corporate social solidarity contribution, reducing public bodies and introducing mandatory collective capitalization for pensions. Higher purchasing power is not guaranteed because it could coincide with increases in private spending on healthcare, education and retirement similar to those observed in the United States.
