Three suspected masterminds allegedly gave orders from their detention via social media, while an accomplice carried out operations outside. The investigation, triggered by a failed attack in March in Essonne, led to four arrests and charges of criminal conspiracy and armed extortion. This case is part of a wave of over 70 cryptocurrency-related kidnappings recorded in France during the first eight months of 2026, a phenomenon that came to public attention with the kidnapping of Ledger co-founder David Balland in January 2025.
