New York Attorney General Letitia James is asking NovaTech founders Cynthia and Eddy Petion, along with related companies, to pay approximately $1.37 billion in damages, disgorgement and interest. The request follows a default judgment issued in August 2025 after the Petions fled the United States. Four top promoters have agreed to pay nearly $6 million for the benefit of victims and are permanently barred from the securities, commodities and cryptocurrency industries. The scheme targeted Haitian immigrants in New York through prayer groups, social media and WhatsApp conversations, drawing more than 11,000 New York investors. CoinPayments data shows that approximately $1.16 billion in cryptocurrency was deposited into NovaTech’s wallet between August 2019 and May 2023, with at least $134.5 million transferred to wallets belonging to the Petions.
