Crypto Groups Push SEC for Tailored Rules on Novel ETFs

Crypto groups, asset managers and consumer advocates submitted competing comments to the SEC on regulating a new generation of exchange-traded products spanning crypto, private assets, event contracts and leveraged strategies. The Crypto Council for Innovation requested that regulatory efficiencies granted to ETFs be extended to other exchange-traded products to foster innovation, while Andreessen Horowitz advocated for case-by-case assessment based on each product’s assets and risks. Disagreements centered on event contracts, confidential filing procedures and retail investor protections. The SEC must now determine whether these products require a common regulatory framework or separate rules based on their structures and risk profiles.
