Following the attack on Binance’s hot-wallet infrastructure, several exchanges disclosed the proportion of their assets kept offline. Gate says 88.26% of its assets are in cold storage and that its offline reserves could cover 104.58% of customer assets even if its hot wallets were completely drained. Coinbase says more than 99% of customer assets are held in cold storage, while Upbit reported a ratio of 99.17% as of September 2026. Other South Korean exchanges reported lower rates, including Bithumb at 94.76%, Coinone at 85%, Digital X at 82.79%, and GOPAX at 80.54%. The figures are not fully comparable because reporting periods and calculation methods differ, and cold storage does not prevent losses caused by compromised signing systems, inadequate access controls, or fraudulent transactions approved by employees.
