Cornell taps Sally Yates for review of sexual assault case response

Cornell University has hired Sally Yates, a former U.S. deputy attorney general, to conduct an independent review of its handling of sexual assault allegations. A former student, identified as Jane Doe, claims she was drugged and assaulted by members of the Chi Phi fraternity in 2024. The university’s Title IX process resulted in some suspensions and expulsions, though no criminal charges have been filed. This review comes amid protests and a separate criminal investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James. Yates will report to a special Board of Trustees committee.
