Cold wallets remain secure today, but senior Ethereum researcher Justin Drake warns that advanced AI could eventually discover a mathematical shortcut to expose private keys for some cryptocurrencies. This risk is not imminent and no evidence of such a vulnerability exists currently. Drake is urging large holders and custodians like Binance, Tether, or Robinhood to review their cold storage protection methods. He recommends slowly moving funds to unused addresses that have never broadcast a public key, reducing the attack surface if such a threat materializes.
