CoinEx is preparing to shut down its platform after nearly nine years as weakness across the crypto market has made operations increasingly difficult. The exchange cited a significant contraction in trading volume and liquidity alongside rising regulatory requirements and higher compliance costs across major jurisdictions. The wind-down process will begin on September 15, 2026, with users able to withdraw funds until December 22, 2026. This closure is part of a broader industry consolidation that has seen BitMart, BitMEX, DEX aggregator Odos and blockchain Dango also shut down this year. Prior to the shutdown, CoinEx had faced a $70 million hack in 2024 attributed to the Lazarus Group and revelations from TRM Labs linking $3.84 billion in transactions between the exchange and sanctioned Iranian entities.
