Coinbase runs approximately 1,200 AI agents internally, each equivalent to a full-time employee (40 to 60 hours per week). These agents participate in code reviews, design phases and are present in the company’s Slack channels. In one year, code delivered per developer has doubled and the number of bugs per line of code has decreased. Brian Armstrong now wants internal platforms to compete against each other and be judged by these AI agents, which can compare services and bypass the underperforming ones. Coinbase has also launched Coinbase for Agents, an offering dedicated to autonomous agents of its clients.
