Cobalt hits Base mainnet with engineering improvements targeting transaction flexibility and upgrade automation

Base activated its Cobalt hard fork on mainnet on September 30 at 18:00 UTC, marking the third major upgrade in its 2026 roadmap. The upgrade introduces validity and conditional transactions, a dynamic upgrade scheduling framework, and accelerated TEE signer registration, along with improvements to the B20 native token standard. No major disruptions were reported following the activation, which followed a week-long trial on the Sepolia test network. The next fork, Denim, is already targeted for October 2026, with Base having completed four major upgrades in roughly four months.
