CME Group crossed the 50,000 single stock futures contracts traded in a single session threshold, with activity concentrated in Nvidia, Intel and Amazon. The exchange launched on July 27 a suite of 77 contracts covering over 50 major US equities, including standard contracts of 100 shares and micro contracts of 10 shares aimed at smaller traders. These contracts are cash-settled at the underlying closing price and trade nearly 23 hours a day on the Globex platform. CME’s equity futures average daily volume reached 7.2 million contracts in first-half 2026, up 12% year-over-year, with micro contracts on tech names particularly attracting retail participants. The exchange is counting on concentrated liquidity in large-cap stocks and retail accessibility to differentiate itself from OneChicago, which shut down in 2020.
