CME Group posted an average daily volume of 29.7 million contracts in August, marking its second-highest August on record. This figure represents a 6% year-over-year increase, driven by US Treasury futures (+15%) and metals trading (+48%). In July 2026, the exchange had already set a record with 27 million contracts per day on average, up 23% year-over-year. As the world’s largest venue for trading futures and options across interest rates, currencies, energy and metals, CME Group earns fees on every contract traded, and this sustained period of elevated volume is expected to positively impact its quarterly earnings.
