Citigroup plans Bitcoin custody service for institutional clients through new Custody+ platform

Citigroup announced on August 18, 2026 the launch of Custody+, a Bitcoin custody platform for institutional clients. The bank, which manages approximately $30 trillion in client assets, will allow asset managers to hold Bitcoin alongside traditional assets on a unified platform. The service will handle key management, wallet infrastructure, and safekeeping, with near-real-time processing capabilities. Bitcoin will be the only cryptocurrency available at launch, with plans to expand to additional digital assets depending on demand.
