China’s industrial profits grew 4.2% year-on-year in August, marking the weakest growth this year. For the first eight months, profits at large industrial firms rose 15.7%, slowing from the 17.6% increase recorded from January to July. This deceleration represents the fourth consecutive month of slowdown, following a peak of 24.7% in April. This trend follows a notable reversal in industrial earnings, shifting from near-zero growth of 0.6% for all of 2023 to double-digit expansion, driven by the AI boom in chips and computing equipment.
