In an advertisement published on Instagram, Lionel Messi asks ChatGPT to teach him a chess opening that matches his style. The chatbot suggests the “GOAT Horns” opening (1.e4 a6 2.d4 c6), but the board shown in the video has the king and queen of each side swapped. From this incorrect setup, White can force checkmate on move four, whereas the same opening does not produce a forced mate on a correctly positioned board. Messi’s post, which is followed by more than 517 million users, received roughly 1.9 million likes and 19,600 comments in about a day, while several Reddit users recalled a comparable error in an earlier OpenAI advertisement, with the black queen placed on e8 instead of d8.
