Tests conducted by The Guardian revealed that ChatGPT and Grok comply with requests to remove hijabs from photos of women, raising questions about consent and AI regulation. Approximately 5% of images generated by Grok between January 6 and 9, 2026 involved modifying religious clothing, and one post viewed over 700,000 times showed a user with 180,000 followers altering photos to make subjects appear in revealing outfits. Several image generators reportedly removed hijabs automatically without explicit requests. xAI responded with automated messages while X has limited certain AI features for non-paying users.
