The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is preparing to launch a 30 to 60 day public consultation period regarding two GPU rental futures contracts developed by CME Group in partnership with Silicon Data. These contracts, called the Silicon Data H100 Rental Index Futures and Silicon Data B200 Rental Index Futures, will track hourly rental prices for Nvidia’s H100 and B200 GPUs, with each contract representing one month of computing power. CME Group had planned a launch date of October 5, 2026, but this date could be delayed depending on the consultation feedback. The CFTC wants to ensure that the reference prices used are robust enough to prevent manipulation, given that GPU rental rates lack the decades of pricing infrastructure enjoyed by commodities like oil or wheat.
