The Central Bank of Ireland fined Coinbase’s Irish subsidiary €3.25 million on October 22, 2026 for breaching customer fund safeguarding and outsourcing rules between November 2020 and August 2025. The regulator identified inadequate oversight of the US parent, commingling of customer funds and persistent shortfalls in the designated safeguarding account, with the largest reaching €5.2 million in 2024. The penalty was initially set at €4.65 million and reduced by 30% after Coinbase admitted the contraventions. Coinbase Ireland self-reported the breaches and says no customers suffered financial losses or lost access to their funds; the entity was previously fined €21.5 million in November 2025 for anti-money laundering and transaction monitoring failures.
