A project backed by the Cardano Foundation has assigned tamper-resistant digital identities to 100,000 farm plots in India, a milestone reached on October 21, 2026. Each plot is registered using satellite-verified data and decentralized identifiers, with crop and sustainability information intended to make verification easier for lenders, insurers and traders. The initiative, conducted with the Syngenta Foundation India and the Agri-Entrepreneur Growth Foundation across several districts in Maharashtra, grew from approximately 7,965 to 10,500 registrations in April and May 2026 to more than 15,000 in June, with daily registrations briefly reaching 500. The infrastructure targets one million farmers, while planned partnerships with the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation could deepen its integration into the agricultural sector. The registrations have no direct crypto-market implications; their value will depend on whether financial institutions and traders adopt the identities to provide credit, insurance and new commercial opportunities.
