Canadian auto billionaire’s fortune doubles even with US tariffs

Linda Hasenfratz’s fortune at age 60 has bounced back to billionaire status after dropping to $800 million when US tariffs were first announced on the Canadian auto industry. Her net worth now stands at $1.8 billion as Linamar Corp shares have climbed 27% this year in Toronto. The Guelph, Ontario-based company benefited from the exemption of auto parts from the 25% tariff on assembled vehicles, covering more than 60% of its earnings. Linamar used the opportunity to make three acquisitions from distressed companies, and sales reached a record in the most recent quarter.
